Germans were a very important immigrant group in the 1800s. from 1800-1899 about 4,485,096 immigrants came from Germany. Some of them left because of the Prussian Military. The 1830s were important because of post-Napoleonic persecution. In the 1840s there were crop failures which also caused immigrants to come. Another push factor in the 1840s was that English clothes came on the market. They were sold at very low prices, too. The clothing and cloth industry was deeply affected. The peasants in German fled to America for better jobs. Also, the German Federation was formed. A big reason why they came was the failed German Revolution in 1848. some immigrants just came for better lives and a new life. Most German immigrants came to Chicago, Detroit, and New York. Since the Germans had such political problems, it was a calling for people to come to America.
